What Blizzard promoted as a more customizable and rewarding alternative to the standard battle pass has quickly become a flashpoint of controversy, drawing criticism for its convoluted structure, misleading interface, and aggressive monetization.

At its core, the Reliquary system replaces the standard battle pass with multiple themed tracks. Players earn Favor Tokens through gameplay and use them to claim cosmetics and other seasonal rewards. On the surface, this seems like an evolution of the previous system-one that allows players to target the specific content they want. However, the reality is far less player-friendly.

Reddit user Loika’s widely shared post exposed one of the most alarming aspects of the system. Nearly every item in the Reliquary tracks can be redeemed using Favor Tokens or purchased directly with Platinum, Diablo 4’s premium currency. In practice, the game interface strongly favors the Platinum option. For instance, an armor set might cost 15 tokens or 750 Platinum (about $7.50 USD). But instead of prompting players to confirm a Platinum purchase, the game enables a direct transaction with no warning-and the Platinum button is prominently placed in the center of the reward screen.

This layout makes it easy to unintentionally spend money, particularly when players are navigating quickly. Console users, in particular, are at high risk. One user pointed out that when claiming rewards with a controller, the button layout changes midway through the redemption process. Initially, the left face button triggers a claim. After a brief pause or transition, it becomes the buy-with-Platinum button, while the Favor Token claim moves to Diablo 4 materials for sale a different button entirely.
